What Dela reads, what it keeps, and who else sees it. Questions or requests: hello@daetalabs.com.
In your browser
- On the AI chat sites it supports (and any site you add), Dela reads the messages in the chat you have open, in your browser, to pick out a few topic keywords and one intent label (learning, building, researching, deciding, creating). Where Chrome offers its built-in AI model, that model does this reading on your computer; the chat is never sent to it over the internet or to Dela. You can turn it off in Dela Settings.
- It never reads chats you don’t open, your AI account, files or images, or anything while Dela is Off.
- Your message text and the AI’s answers never leave your browser.
- Secrets and identifiers (email addresses, phone and card numbers, passwords, keys) are removed before anything is read. Sensitive, personal topics (health, sexual life, religion, politics, ethnicity, legal trouble, immigration, money trouble) are left out too: Dela doesn’t send, search, keep or learn them, and stays out of a chat that’s about one.
Sent to Dela’s server
- Those keywords and the intent label, the links the AI cited, which AI site the chat is on (and the model’s name when the site shows it), and which finds you open, save or rate.
- Your account: email address, optional name, and a password hash (never the password itself). A sign-in lasts 60 days after you last use it.
- Ask Dela (the bubble on this website, no account): it answers questions about Dela from Dela’s own knowledge, and your question goes to the AI provider to write the answer. It isn’t kept when Dela answers. When Dela has no answer yet, the question is kept so the team can find one, with your email address only if you leave it for the answer (used for that email only, never for marketing). Questions are deleted after 180 days. The demo (/demo) sends what you type there to the AI model of the view you picked (through Dela’s AI provider for that model, such as OpenRouter) and searches it the same way; demo chats aren’t kept. One cookie (
dl_ask, a random id) counts your questions and demo chats against daily limits. What the AI work for your questions costs is counted under a scrambled form of that id, never with what you asked. - Dela Doc (on this website, at /doc) is different: what you write in a Doc is kept in your account so you can come back to it. With Dela turned on for a Doc, its text is sent to the AI provider to understand it and plan the research. With Dela turned off, the Doc is only stored, never read. Signing in to Dela Doc sets one cookie (
dl_doc) that keeps you signed in; it’s used for nothing else.
What we keep, and for how long
- In On mode: your Dela Map (the topics you ask about, which ones go together, which AI you ask about them, and the formats and sources you find useful), saved finds, themes you confirmed you’re working on, and a log of searches and interactions for 90 days.
- In Temporary mode: the search is answered but no keywords are stored and nothing is learned.
- Your Dela Map is in Dela Settings: remove any topic there, or clear the whole Map. Delete my account there removes everything.
- The people running Dela can see this data to operate and improve it. We don’t sell it or use it for advertising.
Services that help run Dela
- Search and AI: search queries built from your keywords (never your messages) go to web search and AI providers (Jarvis Labs, Nebius and OpenRouter and the models they run; Google results via Serper or Brave when enabled; Hacker News, arXiv, GitHub, YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify).
- Hosting and storage: Vercel (server) and Supabase (database).
- Pages Dela reads to check a find are fetched by Dela’s own crawler, which respects each site’s robots.txt.
- This website (the home page, Install and Privacy) uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read. Google Analytics sets its own cookies (
_ga) and receives your browser’s address, which it doesn’t store. Dela turns off Google signals and ad personalisation, and in the EU, the UK and Switzerland visits are counted without cookies. Nothing from Dela Doc, the extension or your account goes to it.
